Asher’s Supports the Meadowood Walkers

More than 20 residents and staff members of the Meadowood at Worcester retirement community will participate in Walk MS. The event will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at North Penn High School. What makes this group very special, however, is not a walker, but a rider. She is Sherry Leonhardt, the Admissions Coordinator for the Meadowood Health Center. 19 years ago, a doctor diagnosed her with Multiple Sclerosis.

About Sherry Leonhardt

Leonhardt will be riding her scooter alongside the walkers who will complete the 5.5 mile trek through the Lansdale area. As a result, this is vibrant testimony that those with MS can live active, productive lives. “My friends and co-workers will be walking to help local people living with MS who desperately need our help,” says Leonhardt. “We’re hoping to draw people from all walks of life, all ages and all abilities to come together to make a difference. In the times right now, the recession, charities aren’t getting the contributions they need. So I’m hoping that as a community at Meadowood, as well as the Lansdale area, we can help support people living with MS.”

Additionally, Leonhardt received a college degree in culinary arts. However, a doctor diagnosed her with MS at 29. As a result, she changed careers. She took a job in long-term care 19 years ago, joining the Meadowood staff 11 years ago. Since caring for her grandparents, she says, “I’ve always had a passion for the senior citizen population.” More information on Sherry and the Meadowood Walkers can be found at http://bit.ly/hYMC9k.
